An op-ed, short for “opposite editorial”, is a written prose piece that expresses an opinion of the author on some topic or issue. Op-eds are a highly utilized form of writing, being commonly used within online news articles and generally being a large source of information for the general public. Op-Eds are typically short in length and discuss relevant topics to connect with a general audience. Additionally, they usually rely on hyperlinks as a method of citation rather than traditional methods.
Personally, this assignment is my favorite that I have written this semester. I chose a topic that I was only vaguely familiar with, NFTs. Additionally, given the relative modernity of the invention and popularity of NFTs, not a lot of research has been done on them. This made my initial research process initially quite challenging. I even considered switching topics at several points throughout the process. However, I began to really enjoy the research and piecing together the information that was available into a cohesive narrative. In the end, I am extremely happy with how this piece turned out and everything I learned during its creation.
